One Heck of a Small but Mighty jacket

"The Merino Blend 200 RealFleece Descender Long Sleeve Zip Hoodie is incredibly versatile and ready for the adventure. This jacket is perfect for the PNW weather where it’s cold and breezy in the morning and hot and sunny in the afternoon. No need to switch jackets because this one kept me warm when it was cool and cool when it got warm. Out of the box I threw the jacket on and immediately enjoyed the comfortable snug feeling while still feeling extremely athletic. The clean smart look of the jacket also makes it a nice stylish jacket ready for that dinner date. The hide-a-mitts on the sleeves and hood (while being a little tight at first) are an awesome surprise and came in handy many times when it got cooler and store very nicely on the jacket keeping the footprint of the jacket incredibly small. It’s a rad under layer for the even colder days and packs away extremely well and is incredibly lightweight, begging you to take it on almost every adventure. This jacket is sick, it’s packable, odor resistant, moisture wicking, temperature regulating and all together rad."

New go-to for layering

"TL/DR: Soft, light, and versatile full zip hoodie layer. Wear the IceBreaker RealFleece Descender Hoodie against your skin as a baselayer, over a baselayer for added insulation, or with a shell as a temperature regulating system. Excellent at shedding moisture without getting drenched. Super breathable and quick drying; yet it traps body heat if paired with layers or keeps you cool when on its own. This fleece provides a wide temperature range of use if used properly as part of a layering system. How I tested: I have used this layer on several long distance gravel bike rides as part of a layering system during blustery conditions. I have used it on a multiday backpacking trip, a camping/hiking trip at Devil's Lake in Wisconsin with temp range from 30 to 70 and light chance of rain. I have also used it alone during a hike in mid 60s temps in fair conditions. Use: Recommend for strenuous athletic activities where weight and versatility are paramount. For me that means bikepacking and backpacking as well as more everyday activities like hiking, biking, trail/road running across the temperature spectrum. Fit, Feel, and Look: The merino wool can't be beat for its soft feel. The fabric move fluidly with your motion with no constraint. I vary between medium and large, and the medium fits me perfectly. There's only four colors to choose from, but I like those options (I'm pictured in the heathered black/grey). Quality: Stitching looks clean and secure. I worry about pilling. Extra features: Thumb holes are key. The hidden chest pocket is better than no pockets, but I find those pretty limited for use. An extra piece of fabric at the cuffs can flip over your fingers for a little extra warmth on a cool morning. The long hem in the back provides a little more coverage. Bottom line: This layer is unique and highly functional in my kit. It is different from my fleeces that I use for insulation and more versatile than my baselayers/athletic layers. The merino wool seems to intuitively know when to keep you warm and when to keep you cool. In short, I love it. I received this product for free in exchange for my honest review."

Fantastic Lightweight Fleece

"Prefacing this with I received this product for free in exchange for my honest review. This is a great, lightweight running or hiking fleece for anyone who needs a comfy layer that also comes at no weight cost. I took it running for a ~10 mile loop, and the breathability really shines when sweating buckets. It felt comfortable, and not at all restrictive. I never noticed any additional temperature taxation, and felt that while I was covering more of my body than just a t-shirt may have, it didn't come at additional cost to my body's temperature regulation. It fits true-to-size, or perhaps maybe 1% larger than size (I really didn't notice it at all, but my cuffs seemed to stretch a little over time). The fabric is soft, light, and delicate. I mention delicate, because while I wasn't running through the woods, I would be a little concerned about rips and tears, but that would not be unique to this product, rather this entire product category. I loved the additional thumb holes for my hands, and the pullover pseudo-gloves were great for when it got cold. I wore this a few times in colder temperatures, and never felt that I was sacrificing insulation (the benefits of merino, eh?). It was very, very comfortable on my 10-mile, 70 degree day with some cloud cover but mostly sun."

New go-to midlayer

"I tested the Icebreaker RealFleece Descender Hoodie over several weeks as a light midlayer while backcountry skiing in western Maine (10–28°F), ice climbing in the White Mountains, and hiking in wet spring conditions around 35–50°F. Overall, it works best as an active insulation layer for high-output pursuits rather than a standalone warmth piece. The merino blend fabric breathes exceptionally well on uphill skin tracks and steep approaches, and I never felt clammy even after sweating hard under a shell. Moisture management is noticeably better than many fully synthetic fleece layers I’ve used, especially during stop-and-go movement while climbing. It also layers cleanly under a hardshell without bunching or restricting movement. Temperature regulation is where the Descender really stands out. During ski touring and hiking, it kept me warm enough while moving but dumped excess heat effectively once my pace picked up. On colder belays or windy ridgelines it definitely needed a shell over top, but as a lightweight technical fleece it hit a really versatile balance. The fit is trim but accurate to size and works well over a light baselayer. The fabric feels soft next-to-skin with none of the itchiness some merino pieces can have. One thing I still can’t decide if I like or dislike are the cuffs—they have an unusual low-profile stretch design that can feel awkward when pulling gloves on and off, especially while ice climbing. They seal heat well but took some getting used to. Construction and durability have been solid so far. After repeated use with a pack, harness, and shell layers, I haven’t noticed pilling or loose stitching, and the fabric still looks new after multiple washes. Compared to other lightweight fleece midlayers, the RealFleece fabric feels less plasticky and manages odor significantly better over multi-day use. It’s not the warmest fleece in my kit, but it has become one of the pieces I reach for most often because of how comfortable and adaptable it is across different mountain activities. Versatile and Comfortable

"The RealFleece Descender Hoodie was an absolutely perfect layer for spring in MW Montana. I put this hoodie through everything including high alpine days in Glacier National Park, rock climbing in direct sun, long cycling days, and more. I mentioned to friends of mine that, “this jacket has the widest range of any layer I’ve had”. I used it as a sun shirt with the hood up when it was hot and a base layer when it was cold. I couldn’t believe how well it regulated temperature, especially when I was warm during a run or bike. Icebreaker also thought through many details with this layer that made it incredibly comfortable. The thumb loops and mittens kept my hands warm in a lot of high alpine situations. The hood was perfectly comfortable under my climbing helmet, and they even thought about the seams and how they could reduce friction with movement. The gussets allow for very easy movement and they are comfortable with various packs and vests. I was initially worried about the fit as layers like this are often too long for me in the torso and arms, but the Hoodie was perfect, although I could see it feeling short for some taller users. It felt a bit like a more tailored Patagonia R1 to me. The Descender Hoodie has quickly become my go to layer for any unpredictable day out. Colorado Cool

"I tested this Icebreaker layer during multiple runs, hikes, and outdoor soccer training sessions in Colorado spring conditions ranging from the upper 30s to low 60s. Most of my use was during cool morning runs, windy evenings on the soccer field while coaching, and active outdoor movement where temperature swings are common throughout the day. The standout feature for me was temperature regulation. The merino blend did an excellent job balancing warmth and breathability during changing effort levels. During runs, it provided enough warmth at the start in colder temperatures without becoming overly hot once my pace increased. Even during stop-and-go movement while coaching, it helped keep my body temperature comfortable without trapping excess heat. Performance during active use was strong overall. The fabric breathed well, moved moisture effectively, and stayed comfortable even after extended wear. Compared to heavier synthetic layers, this felt lighter and more natural against the skin while still handling sweat well during higher-output activity. I also appreciated that it stayed comfortable after cooling down rather than feeling damp or clammy. Fit was accurate to size and worked well both as a standalone piece and layered under an outer shell. Mobility was excellent during running and movement-based activity, and the fabric had enough stretch without feeling loose or baggy. Next-to-skin comfort was one of the better aspects of the piece. The merino blend felt soft and comfortable even during long periods of wear. Construction and overall quality feel excellent. Stitching, seams, and fabric all feel premium and durable, and after multiple uses the garment still looks new with no signs of stretching or premature wear. Icebreaker continues to stand out for combining the natural comfort and odor resistance of merino with enough performance capability for more active outdoor use. Compared to many synthetic performance layers I have worn, this piece feels more versatile across a wider range of conditions. It works equally well for running, hiking, coaching, and general everyday outdoor wear without needing to constantly add or remove layers. I received this product for free in exchange for my honest review."

Just what I was looking

"Just what I was looking for in a lightweight hoodie. Fit is great and excellent construction. I’ve have the whole range of Icebreaker wool tops and bottoms from light to heavy weight and a couple if heavy weight hoodies. This is another great essential layering piece from Icebreaker."

Very confortable, not to warm

"Very confortable, not to warm and not to cold. I wear this fleece almost every day."
